The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the legacy of firefighter Stephen Siller by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star Families, fallen first responders, and catastrophically injured veterans. Through transformative initiatives like the SMART Home Program, Gold Star Family Home Program, and Veteran Villages, they bring hope, independence, and stability to those who have sacrificed so much for others.
A home is more than a place to live—it’s a refuge for those who’ve given everything. The SMART Home Program delivers fully customized, mortgage-free homes tailored to the needs of catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. These innovative homes feature cutting-edge technology, including automated doors, adjustable cabinets, wheelchair-accessible showers, and tablet-controlled systems, ensuring comfort, accessibility, and independence for every recipient.

Stephen Gerard Siller, the youngest of seven children, overcame early hardships, including the loss of both parents by age ten, with the support of his siblings. A devoted husband, father of five, and firefighter with Brooklyn’s Squad 1, Stephen exemplified selflessness. On September 11, 2001, after his shift, he ran through the closed Brooklyn Battery Tunnel carrying 60 pounds of gear to the Twin Towers, where he gave his life saving others. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi’s words, “While we have time, let us do good,” Stephen’s legacy reminds us to live with purpose and compassion.
